U. A. Local 486 has established a MVA of MD license plate displaying the U. A. logo for our members. The plates are available through the hall for a fee of $25.00. An application to the MVA must accompany the payment, and the member is responsible for turning in their old tags to the MVA.If you have any questions, or to request an application, please call Mark or Linda at the hall.
2009 PICNIC AND CRAB FEAST
The Plumbers and Steamfitters 13th Annual Picnic will be held on Saturday, August 15, 2009 at Conrad's Ruth Villa,3301 Edwards Lane, Middle River, Maryland from 12:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. Tickets are on sale now at the hall. Prices will remain at $25.00 for adults and $10.00 for children 4-11 years of age. Children under 4 years old are free.
RETIREMENT PARTY FOR LARRY E. VINCK
The local will be hosting a retirement party for Larry E. Vinck. Larry has been a member of U.A. Local 486 for 42 years. He has served as Training Director at the Training School, and more recently, as Business Manager of Local 486.The party will be held on Saturday, August 29, 2009 at Richlin Ballroom, 1700 Van Bibber Road, Edgewood, Maryland from 7:00-11:00 p.m. Tickets are $40.00 per person, and should be available for sale on or around June 1, 2009. Come help us celebrate Larry's lifelong dedication to our local.
NEW CONTRACT
A new 3 year contract was approved by the membership on March 29, 2007. The new contract includes a $2.60 increase for 2009-2010.
Effective 4/1/09, $2.02 was added to the base wage.
The new package, effective 4/1/09 is: Scale $36.215; Medical $6.02; Pension $5.41; Annuity $2.83; Training Fund $.042; Industry Fund $.33. Total benefits package: $15.13. Total Package: $51.345 for journeymen working regular time. The dues checkoff increased by $.02 to $1.04; JTP increased to $.30/hr; a Building Fund of $.05/hr was established.

SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATIONS
Once again, Plumbers & Steamfitters U.A. Local 486 is offering the Local 486/Bernard J. Vondersmith Memorial Scholarship to members and their children and grandchildren. The applicant must be entering a post high school educational facility. Applications are available at the hall, and are due by September 1, 2009.
In addition, the United Association is offering a scholarship to members and their children and grandchildren. Applications may be downloaded from uanet.org or through the hall. Deadline is June 15, 2009.
