A new three year agreement was reached and approved by the membership with the MCA of MD, Inc. on March 27, 2010 at a special meeting.

The scale and fringes for journeymen will remain the same as the previous contract for 1 year. Next year, base wage adjustments will be made if industry fund hours exceed 2,150,000 hours. Pension and medical fringe modifications will be made if actuarial reports indicate additional modifications are required if no additional benefits on these funds are provided. On April 1, 2012, the base wage will increase by $1.50.

Apprentice percentages will change on 9/1/10 as follows:
1st year: 40% $14.49 per hour;
2nd year: 50% $18.11 per hour;
3rd year: 60% $21.73 per hour;
4th year: 70% $25.35 per hour;
5th year: 80% $28.97 per hour.

ANNUAL PICNIC AND CRAB FEAST

486 and the MCA of Maryland are once again sponsoring a picnic and crab feast for members and their guests at Conrad's Ruth Villa in Bengies, Maryland on Saturday, August 14, 2010 from 12:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. Admission will be $25.00 for adults and children over 11, $10.00 for kids ages 4 - 11. Under 4, admission is free.
The menu includes shaved beef and ham, Italian sausage, hot dogs, barbeque, corn on the cob, crab soup, potato salad, cole slaw, chips, pretzels, watermelon, ice cream, coffee, soda, beer, and of course, all the crabs you can eat.
Tickets should be available for purchase on or around June 1.

U. A. LICENSE PLATES

U. A. Local 486 has established a MVA of MD license plate displaying the U. A. logo for our members. The plates are available through the hall for a fee of $25.00. An application to the MVA must accompany the payment, and the member is responsible for turning in their old tags to the MVA.

Anyone who needs unescorted access to secure areas of ports, facilities, or vessels regulated by the Maritime Transportation Security Act will need to obtain a TWIC.

2009 SCHOLARSHIP GOLF TOURNAMENT

The 12th Annual Golf Championship, to benefit the U. A. Local 486/Bernard J. Vondersmith Memorial Scholarship Fund, will be held on Friday, October 1, 2010 at Mountain Branch, 827 Mountain Road, Joppa, Maryland. All proceeds from the outing are used to help our members' children and grandchildren with post-high school education costs. Scholarship applications are available at the union hall.
