Local 486 works for its members. We provide numerous benefits ranging from health care and pension funds to training and political action.

• Retirement. We help members plan for retirement through a variety of options, including a Defined Benefit Pension Fund, a Defined Contribution Pension Fund (self-directed) and a 401k Plan (self-directed). For further information see our Investment Performance chart.
• Health. Health care plans available include Major Medical, Mental Health and Dental.
• Credit Union. Low-cost loans and savings plans are offered through the Baltimore Pipe Trades Federal Credit Union. Payroll deduction options are available.
• Training. A variety of journeymen training programs are offered to enhance members' skills in specialized areas and emerging technologies.
• Apprenticeship Program. Our five-year apprenticeship training program assures a well prepared, trained labor pool.
• Job Information. We are our members' resource for information about available jobs.
• Your Voice. Local 486 communicates with its members and with employers about issues of importance. Our Political Action Committee (PAC) maintains liaison with elected government officials.

The following are requirements of membership:

• Journeymen must have five years documented practical piping experience.
• Apprentices who apply for the Apprenticeship Program must have a high school diploma or GED Certificate.
